Three types of wood:
Cherry is a luxurious wood, with variations in colours in a warm reddish mid tone, The grain is exciting and curvy to the eye and often exhibits wonderful depth. Some pieces may be streaked with bands of light sap wood which impart a beautiful contrast. Cherry will darken with age and is a very durable and stable wood. In the hand Cherry has a solid medium weight feel.
Black Walnut is a rich and elegant wood, with colours in a warm mid tone – to a deep and dark almost ebony tone. The grain is strong and sometimes very straight. Some pieces may be streaked with bands of light sap wood which impart a beautiful contrast. Walnut will darken with age and is a very durable and stable wood. In the hand Walnut has a dense and heavy feel.
Alder is a beautiful west coast wood, with lighter tan to mid brown tones often displaying flecks or rays in the grain. Alder will age nicely, and tends to stay lighter in overall colour, which often accentuates and contrasts with the flecks in the grain. In the hand Alder has a lighter feel.
